Every sort of alloy does not go well with every car or truck. Individual rims vary on various parameters such as size and design. Thus there are various pros and cons which are associated with them. All these points should be considered before buying rims for your vehicle.
Pressed steel rims:
They have low initial cost and very good durability. But they are very heavy in weight as compared to other rims. They are not corrosion-resistant and have unattractive appearance.
Steel/Composite rims
They are very light weight and have a unique design. They provide the possibility to have rims of large diameter. But they have high cost of production and complex designs.
Light-alloy forged rims:
Here casting has been replaced by forging so they are the lightest rims in their class. These types of rims can also be painted, machined or chrome plated. But they have a very high price and designing is very tedious.
Single piece Cast Aluminum:
It is the most common type of rim used in the market. It is light weight, can be painted, machined or chrome plated and is resistant to corrosion. It also has easy maintenance. Moreover, it is light on pocket which makes this the most famous amongst wheel getters.
Piece Aluminum:
These types of rims are also called modular rims. The manufacturing process used allows the designer to have radical styles. But due to its styles, chrome plating is very tedious and cumbersome.
Alloy wheels definitely make a bold statement about themselves. Besides being lighter in weight and possessing good looks they are of open construction and heat dissipation is very fast. They also provide better performance and stability. Rims also provide an ease of balancing. At the same time alloys/rims are expensive to repair if chipped or cracked and can shatter if involved in a heavy collision.
